As in anything else, there are a variety of choices to choose.  In deciding a therapist or counselor, there are some questions to ask to find the right one.  In addition to those points listed in the attached picture, I would add the following questions to ask a potential therapist:

1. What treatment(s) strategies do you use or what can I expect for treatment of _________ (your specific issue)?

2. How many clients have you helped with _______ (your particular issue)?

3. What are your spiritual views?

4. Do you accept insurance (if applicable)?

5. Do you offer a sliding scale? Some offer a sliding scale (paying less than the standard rate) if income warrants it.

6. If they can’t help you, then ask if they can refer someone else.

Also, while talking with a therapist during the initial call or first session, note their personality. You should feel comfortable working them, especially when dealing with difficult subjects as is common in therapy.
