Frequently, we believe this because others in our past have failed to help us when we were in pain or cried out for help so we mistakenly believe no one can help and we’ll just have to fix the problem ourselves.

However, the problem that lies with thinking we can do it by ourselves is that we are operating in a vacuum. When we operate in a vacuum, we are not able to benefit from the wisdom of those who have gone before us or those that have the skills and knowledge to help us with our problem.

Also, when operating in a vacuum, it is common to have distorted thinking… thinking of things from just one point of view that is unhealthily skewed due to a biological imbalance and/or to experiences in the past which may have been dysfunctional. Either of these reasons robs us of the possibility of arriving at a healthy solution. It is imperative that we seek wise and objective counsel to determine an empowering solution.
